Biography
Debra is the Co-Founder of MIX Diversity Developers and an international speaker on Motivation, Resilience, Women into Leadership, Unconscious Bias and Wellbeing (Largest Audience 20,000). Debra has spoken at over 1,000 organisations including Shell, Microsoft, HSBC, Pfizer and IBM and has led a number of women’s programmes for companies such as Tesco, Intralinks and Investec.
A world-class communicator, Debra was trained by the BBC and has presented over 40 programmes for them. She has published 3 books and made numerous media appearances on BBC 1, BBC Radio 2 and 4, NBC, and ITV. In 2022, Debra was voted No.1 Female Motivational Speaker in the world by Global Gurus.
Debra was also the co-founder of the Women’s Business Network Forum, based out of Buckingham Palace. In 2015 she got to combine her passions for gender parity and adventure, leading the LeasePlan Women’s Arctic Challenge. She took 12 ordinary businesswomen from the car industry and turned them into Arctic explorers as part of a wider project about unconscious bias and stereotyping. Debra’s DEI work led her to being nominated for the European Diversity Awards ‘Inspirational Role Model of the Year’.
Debra is best known for having rowed solo across the Atlantic Ocean, for which she was awarded an MBE from HM The Queen and a place on the board of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. She hit the headlines after her husband had to be rescue from their tiny Atlantic rowing boat. Debra, a novice rower, chose to go on alone, as described in her TEDx Talk and now the movie of her solo row is in development in Hollywood.
